The results were announced on Thursday by the NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, during a press briefing.
According to the Registrar, 1,378,048 candidates registered for the 2026 examination, while 1,371,992 candidates eventually sat for the examination.
58.67% Obtained Five Credits, Including English and Mathematics
NECO reported that 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 percent, obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
The council also disclosed that 1,126,118 candidates, representing 84.70 percent, obtained five credits and above regardless of whether English Language and Mathematics were included.
The figures provide an overview of candidates' performance in the 2026 SSCE Internal examination.
Examination Malpractice Drops By 64.74%
NECO also reported a significant decline in the number of candidates involved in examination malpractice.
According to Wushishi, 1,496 candidates were involved in examination malpractice in 2026, compared with 3,878 candidates in 2025.
This represents a 64.74 per cent decrease in reported cases.
The Registrar attributed part of the reduction to the increasing adoption of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) in NECO examinations.
NECO Speaks On Miracle Centres
During the question-and-answer session, Wushishi also addressed concerns surrounding so-called “miracle centres.”
He said NECO was not associated with such centres, stressing that the council has only one school and does not operate or own miracle centres.
According to him, NECO registers examination centres based on established criteria but does not recognise or promote centres involved in examination malpractice.
He further stated that where such centres exist, they may be operated by state governments or private individuals, rather than by NECO.
What Candidates Should Know
Candidates who participated in the 2026 NECO SSCE can now proceed to check their results through the appropriate NECO result-checking platform.
Candidates should ensure that they use the official NECO channels when checking their results and avoid individuals or websites claiming they can upgrade or alter examination results.
The release of the 2026 results now gives candidates access to their performance as they prepare for tertiary institution admission, scholarships, employment opportunities, and other academic requirements.
