NELFUND Update: How to Disburse and Pay School Fees Through the Student Loan Portal

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) portal provides students with a process for sending approved institutional fee payments directly to their schools. Beneficiaries who need to process their school fee payments should follow the steps available on their School Loan History page.

How to Pay School Fees Through the NELFUND Portal

Students can follow these steps to initiate the payment of their institutional charges:

Step 1: Log in to the NELFUND Portal

Access your NELFUND account and navigate to your School Loan History page.

Step 2: Click the “Pay School” Button

Under the Actions tab, locate and click the green “Pay School” button.

Step 3: Confirm Your Payment Request

A pop-up prompt will appear, asking you to confirm whether you want to pay your institutional charges. Click “Yes, Send to Institution” to proceed.

Step 4: Check Your Loan Status

After confirming the request, your loan status should automatically change to SENT_TO_INSTITUTION. This indicates that the payment request has been sent to your institution.

Step 5: Wait for Your Institution to Process the Payment

Once your institution receives and processes the transfer, your loan status should change to PAYMENT_ACCEPTED.

What Do the NELFUND Payment Statuses Mean?

  • SENT_TO_INSTITUTION: Your institutional fee payment has been sent to your school for processing.

  • PAYMENT_ACCEPTED: Your institution has received and processed the payment, according to the portal status.

Students should monitor their NELFUND accounts for status updates and confirm with their institution if the payment status does not change after a reasonable period.

Important Advice for NELFUND Beneficiaries

Before initiating payment, ensure that you are using the correct NELFUND account and that your institutional details are accurate. Keep checking your portal after submitting the request, and contact your institution or NELFUND support if you experience delays or encounter an unexpected status.
