The commission disclosed the decision on Monday, stating that the register, which was previously displayed physically at registration areas nationwide from October 9 to 15, would also be accessible through its online platform.
According to INEC, the move is intended to improve transparency, make the register more accessible and strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
In a statement, the Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the commission had decided to make the same preliminary register available online.
“Accordingly, and in furtherance of its commitment to transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process, the Commission has decided to make available on its online platform https://display.inecnigeria.org the same Preliminary Register of Voters earlier displayed at the Registration Areas,” the statement read.
How to Check the Preliminary Voter Register Online
Nigerians can access the preliminary register through INEC’s designated online platform:
Official portal: https://display.inecnigeria.org
Registered voters are encouraged to check their details carefully to identify any errors or discrepancies that may require correction.
The online publication is intended to complement the earlier physical display, allowing more people to access the register without having to visit registration areas.
Why INEC Is Publishing the Register Online
The decision followed calls from Nigerians and other stakeholders for the preliminary register to be made available online in addition to the physical display exercise.
INEC explained that the physical display was conducted in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026. The exercise was designed to give registered voters an opportunity to verify their information and submit claims and objections as provided by law.
By making the register available online, the commission aims to widen public access and support the process of identifying and correcting errors before the final register is certified.
INEC Sets December 15 for Final Voter Register
The commission said it was processing claims and objections received during the exercise ahead of the certification and publication of the final register of voters.
According to Haruna, the final register is scheduled for publication on December 15, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The Commission continues to process claims and objections arising from the exercise in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026, preparatory to the certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters on 15th December 2026,” he stated.
The final register will follow the review of submissions arising from the preliminary display exercise.
INEC Reaffirms Commitment to Credible Elections
INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and the implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026, as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.
The commission also appreciated the interest and constructive engagement of Nigerians and other stakeholders, saying public participation remains important to strengthening the electoral process.
Registered voters are encouraged to check their details on the official portal and follow INEC’s guidance on any applicable claims or objections procedures.
