US President Donald Trump has rejected calls for international supervision of artificial intelligence, describing proposals for global oversight of the technology as a “globalist scheme.”
Trump made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing the United Nations General Assembly, where he spoke about the growing development and influence of artificial intelligence.
The US president argued against placing AI under an international regulatory framework, signalling opposition to efforts that would give global institutions greater oversight of the technology.
During his address, Trump also announced a change in terminology that he said the US government would adopt when referring to artificial intelligence.

Trump said the US government would henceforth use the term “super intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence” in its official communications.
He expressed hope that other countries would adopt the terminology as well.
