Son Discovers Father’s Secret Second Family After Answering Office Phone Call

 

A 25-year-old man, identified as Francis, was left shocked after accidentally discovering that his wealthy businessman father had a second family outside his long-standing marriage.

Francis, the first son of Alex, an industrialist in his 60s, had always regarded his family as close-knit and happy. His father had invested heavily in his education, sending him abroad for university and later supporting him through a master’s degree in Business Administration.

After completing his studies, Francis returned home and joined his father’s company.

“I was very happy to,” Francis recalled, explaining that he had already assisted in the family business several times during his holidays.

At 25, Francis was eventually placed in charge of the production department, a section of the company he had become familiar with over the years.

According to him, his father had always presented himself as a man who valued honesty, fairness and good morals.

The family, which consisted of six children, was also very close. Francis said his father loved their mother deeply, while the children shared one another’s successes and difficulties.

However, everything changed one day when Francis was in his father’s office discussing a difficult business matter.

His father suddenly had to leave for an appointment, leaving Francis behind to continue working.

While he was concentrating on some figures, the office telephone rang.

Francis answered the call.

A woman on the other end of the line reportedly greeted him warmly, saying she was looking forward to seeing his father and that “Betty” was excited about the gifts he had brought back from his last trip.

Confused, Francis asked the woman who she was.

The woman reportedly explained that she thought the managing director was still in the office and introduced herself as Sola, his wife.

She then ended the call.

Francis immediately became suspicious.

He said he soon realised that Sola was not his mother but apparently his father’s mistress. He also discovered that Betty was the woman’s daughter.

According to Francis, several members of staff were already familiar with Sola and regarded her as his father’s second “wife”.

The discovery left him deeply troubled.

He began wondering how his father, whom he had always regarded as a moral and principled man, could maintain another relationship while still married to his mother.

Francis was particularly concerned about his mother, who had reportedly abandoned a promising nursing career to raise their children.

He also struggled with the question of whether he should confront his father or tell his mother and siblings about what he had discovered.

Yemisi also suggested that the businessman might eventually have intended to tell his first son about the relationship himself, particularly because he had brought Francis into the company despite the possibility that Sola could visit the office.

She acknowledged that having a child outside the marriage was problematic but questioned how many men could maintain what she described as a stable family while also having an affair.

She therefore advised Francis to speak privately with his father rather than immediately informing his mother.

“Grow up and talk more to your old man about his problem,” she reportedly advised.

Another person, Justice, a 46-year-old lecturer, offered a different perspective.

He argued that a wealthy married man having another woman and providing accommodation for her was not necessarily unacceptable, particularly within the context of traditional African practices.

Justice described polygamy as an African cultural institution inherited from previous generations.

He also argued that a person's advice to his children about morality did not necessarily mean that the person himself had never made mistakes.

In his view, the businessman may have wanted his children to maintain high moral standards and build successful futures despite his own personal decisions.

Justice also advised Francis not to immediately tell his mother about what he had discovered.

Instead, he suggested that Francis should maintain a relationship with both his father and Sola and, where possible, help them resolve their disagreements.

He warned that immediately turning against his father could create a deeper family crisis.
