What Next After JAMB?

So, you’ve written your JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) exam congratulations. That’s a major step in your journey toward gaining admission into a tertiary institution in Nigeria.

But what happens next? If you’re wondering what to do while waiting for your results or admission, here’s a simple guide on the steps to take after JAMB.

1. Check Your JAMB Result

Once JAMB releases the results, the first thing to do is to check your score. You can do this by visiting the JAMB result portal https://www.jamb.gov.ng or by sending “UTME RESULT” to 55019 using the phone number used during registration.

2. Compare Your Score with Cut-Off Marks

After checking your score, find out the cut-off mark for your preferred institution and course. Each school and department has its own cut-off mark. This helps you know your chances of admission.

3. Consider a Change of Course or Institution (if needed)

If your score is below the cut-off mark for your initial choice, don’t panic. JAMB allows you to apply for a change of course or institution. This can be done on the JAMB portal for a small fee.

4. Prepare for Post-UTME

Many institutions conduct Post-UTME or screening exercises. You should:

Monitor the website of your chosen school.

Know the Post-UTME form release date

Start preparing with past questions and materials

5. Upload Your O’Level Result

It’s important to upload your WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB result to the JAMB portal through a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. This is a requirement for admission consideration.

6. Stay Updated

Always check the official websites and social media pages of your school of choice. Join educational groups or platforms that provide updates on admission processes. Join through https://chat.whatsapp.com/DGbZ1uwgbGd8im7PPu9g4U

7. Wait for Admission List

After the screening, schools will release their admission lists. You can check your admission status on:

JAMB CAPS (Central Admission Processing System)

The school’s admission portal

If offered admission, you’ll be asked to accept or reject it on JAMB CAPS.

Conclusion:

The period after JAMB is filled with important decisions and steps. Be patient, stay informed, and take each step seriously. Whether you score high or low, there are still options available. Remember, what matters most is your determination to succeed.
