Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (AAPOLY) is one of the notable tertiary institutions in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State. For new students, parents, visitors and prospective students, knowing the school environment is almost as important as knowing the school itself.
AAPOLY is located in the Atikori area of Ijebu-Igbo, along the Dagbolu/Akanran Road. The institution occupies a large expanse of land and is situated around the rolling hills of Atikori. The Polytechnic is also bordered by the Ojowo community.
Understanding the Location of AAPOLY
One important thing every fresher should understand is that AAPOLY is not located in the middle of a major city. It is situated within the wider Ijebu-Igbo community, where different towns, quarters, markets, residential areas and business districts connect to form the school environment.
Ijebu-Igbo is traditionally made up of five major communities:
- Oke-Sopen
- Ojowo
- Atikori
- Oke-Agbo
- Japara
These communities are important landmarks for anyone trying to understand the geography of Ijebu-Igbo.
Atikori
Atikori is particularly important to AAPOLY students because the Polytechnic itself is located in the Atikori area.
The school address is generally given as Dagbolu/Akanran Road, Atikori, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
For a fresher who has never visited Ijebu-Igbo before, learning the name “Atikori” is therefore very important. It is one of the first locations you should mention when asking for directions to AAPOLY.
Ojowo
Ojowo is another major community that is particularly relevant to AAPOLY because the Polytechnic's surroundings are described as being bounded by Ojowo.
Students may hear Ojowo mentioned when looking for accommodation, markets, transportation, food, shops and other services.
There are also commercial areas within the wider Ojowo environment, making it a useful reference point for students living around the school.
Oke-Agbo
Oke-Agbo is one of the five major communities of Ijebu-Igbo and one of the most recognisable areas in the town.
One notable location here is Itale Oke-Agbo, which functions as a market area. Itale Oke-Agbo
The Oke-Agbo axis is therefore another name students should become familiar with, particularly when moving around Ijebu-Igbo for shopping, food, banking and other daily activities.
Oke-Alafia
Oke-Alafia is another area within the wider Oke-Agbo environment. There are businesses and other facilities around the area, including the Oke Alafia Complex.
For example, local business directories identify commercial activity around Oke Alafia Complex, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo.
Oke-Fe, Oke-Ashokun and Other Oke Areas
Students may also come across names such as:
- Oke-Ife
- Oke-Alafia
- Oke-Agbo
- Other smaller “Oke” quarters and streets
These names can initially be confusing to someone who is new to Ijebu-Igbo. The best way to become familiar with them is to gradually learn the major roads, junctions, landmarks and communities around your accommodation and the school.
Odo Asoyin
Odo Asoyin is another important location students may hear about when navigating Ijebu-Igbo.
There is also a Polaris Bank location on Odo Asoyin Road in Ijebu-Igbo. Polaris Bank Ltd.
This makes Odo Asoyin a useful landmark for students who need banking services or are trying to identify a particular direction within town.
Alèke and Abẹ́shin
Other local landmarks and areas that students may encounter include:
- Alèke
- Alèke Mosque
- Abẹ́shin
- Station areas
- Other surrounding residential quarters
The Abẹ́shin area is also identifiable as a local landmark in Ijebu-Igbo. For example, a hotel in the town is located opposite Abeshin Mosque. The Diamond Hotel Ltd. Ijebu-Igbo
Molusi
Molusi is another familiar name within Ijebu-Igbo. Molusi College, Ijebu-Igbo, is documented as being in Ijebu North, Ogun State.
Students should become familiar with names such as Molusi because local directions are often given using well-known schools, markets, junctions, religious centres and other landmarks rather than only street names.
Markets and Shopping
One of the first things a fresher needs to understand is where to buy everyday necessities.
The wider Ijebu-Igbo environment has several commercial locations. Atikori Market, for example, is located on Ojowo Road. Atikori Market
Itale Oke-Agbo is another significant market location in the town. Itale Oke-Agbo
There are also numerous small shops and stores scattered across the different communities, meaning students do not necessarily need to travel far for basic provisions.
Banks and Financial Services
Students should also identify the major banking areas early.
For example, there is a Wema Bank branch around Oba Adeboye Road, Ijebu-Igbo. Wema Bank Ijebu Igbo
There is also Polaris Bank around Odo Asoyin Road. Polaris Bank Ltd.
Other financial institutions can be found within the wider Ijebu-Igbo area.
Transport and Major Road Landmarks
Transportation is another thing every AAPOLY student needs to understand.
Important roads and landmarks include:
- Dagbolu/Akanran Road
- Ojowo Road
- Apoje Road
- Oba Adeboye Road
- Odo Asoyin Road
- Atikori
- Ojowo

- Other local junctions and motor parks

Food, Pharmacies and Everyday Services
Students will also find restaurants, pharmacies and general stores within the wider town.
For example, Morning Star Pharmacy is located on Apoje Road, while several restaurants and general stores operate across Ijebu-Igbo. Morning Star Pharmarcy
This is important for freshers because you will eventually need to know where to buy food, medicine, toiletries, stationery, provisions and other necessities.
What Freshers Should Learn First
If you are newly admitted to AAPOLY, don't try to memorise every street in Ijebu-Igbo at once.
Start with these major names:
AAPOLY → Atikori → Dagbolu/Akanran Road → Ojowo → Oke-Agbo → Oke-Sopen → Japara → Oke-Alafia → Odo Asoyin → Alèke → Abẹ́shin → Molusi → major markets, banks and transport points.
As you move around the town, you will gradually learn the smaller streets, quarters, junctions and local landmarks.
Getting familiar with Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic and its environment is one of the first things every fresher should do after gaining admission.
Don't only know your department, lecture rooms and hostel. Know the roads around you. Know where to buy food. Know the nearest market. Know where to get medication. Know the major transport points. Know the important communities and landmarks.
Most importantly, don't be afraid to ask questions when you are new. Within a few weeks, places that initially sounded unfamiliar—Atikori, Ojowo, Oke-Agbo, Oke-Alafia, Oke-Sopen, Odo Asoyin, Alèke, Abẹ́shin, Molusi and others—will gradually become familiar parts of your student life.
Welcome to AAPOLY. Get familiar with your school. Get familiar with your environment. It makes campus life much easier.
